I’m a design thinker who finds excitement in problem solving and connecting people through memorable experiences. I’m currently based in Washington, DC.
Hi, I’m Juan. I find some of my greatest life excitements in connecting people from different backgrounds. At work, this means collaborating closely with team members or advocating for marginalized user groups through inclusive design. Outside of work, I love to cook, explore museums, and DJ (I'm still getting the hang of that)!
I recently graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelors in Information Science (User Experience design focus) and minors in Art and Design, and Entrepreneurship. Currently, I’m seeking a full time opportunity in a design related role.
In abstract, I define User Experience (UX) Design as making tasks or experiences more engaging, intuitive, beautiful, and meaningful for people. A designer's job is to understand a system then advocate for user wants and needs. Designers should give users a sense of control and intuitive understanding of products. Additionally, designers should nudge users in new directions to encourage exploration and experimentation of products and experiences.
Here are some classic examples of the importance of UX Design that I find inspiring:
When U.S. air force discovered the flaw of averages
How bad ballot design can sway the result of an election
The Aesthetic-Usability Effect
